Dr. Brett Wergin grew up in Lincoln and says returning home “just felt right.” He spent seven years practicing full-scope family medicine in Fairbury, Nebraska—caring for patients in the clinic, hospital, emergency room, and nursing home. Through that experience, he discovered what he values most about medicine: “those one-to-one moments in the room, getting to know patients and families.”

At Bluestem Health’s Main Clinic, Dr. Wergin enjoysbuilding long-term relationships with patients and families and caring for them through every stage of life. He enjoys working with a diverse community and believes in meeting people where they are. “I approach patient interactions by listening first, understanding their preferences, and making treatment decisions together,” Dr. Wergin says. “When you understand what’s happening at home and how everyone’s health connects, it helps you care for people more completely.” That belief also guides his passion for the comprehensive nature of family medicine. This gives Dr. Wergin the opportunity to help patients with most aspects of their healthcare needs, and he has particular interests in preventive medicine, diabetes management, cardiology, and psychiatry.

Dr. Wergin received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, earned his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and completed his residency at Lincoln Family Medicine Residency Program. He is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and trauma-certified.

Dr. Wergin enjoys hiking, going to concerts, and spending time with family and friends. He also loves to travel—especially to Guatemala and Spain—drawn by the culture, the warmth, and the chance to see the world through someone else’s eyes.
