Medicare Insurance

Are you wondering if you qualify for Medicare, but don’t know where to begin? Are you looking for assistance in enrolling, but don’t know who to ask? Navigating and understanding the requirements of health insurance can be an overwhelming task to accomplish on your own. Bluestem Health is here to help.

What is Medicare?

To begin, it’s important to gain a general idea of what Medicare health insurance is and who qualifies. Medicare is a federal health insurance program in the United States that primarily provides health coverage for people aged 65 and older with no income restrictions. It can also cover certain younger individuals with disabilities or specific medical conditions. Medicare is broken down into the following parts:

  • Part A – This is hospital insurance that helps cover inpatient care in hospitals, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and home health care.
  • Part B – This medical insurance helps cover services from doctors, outpatient care, home health care, many preventive services, and durable medical equipment.
  • Part C – This is otherwise known as Medicare Advantage and is a Medicare-approved plan from a private company that offers an alternative to original Medicare for health and drug coverage.
  • Part D – This helps cover outpatient prescription drug costs. A Medicare drug plan must be joined in addition to the original Medicare or by joining a Medicare Advantage plan. Plans that offer Medicare drug coverage are run by private insurance companies that follow rules set by Medicare.

There are several Medicare health insurance options available. We want you to know that we value our Medicare patients and accept Medicare insurance at all five of Bluestem Health’s locations.

It’s important to note that while Medicare covers a significant portion of healthcare costs for eligible individuals, it does not cover all medical expenses. There may be out-of-pocket costs such as deductibles, small monthly premiums, copayments, and coinsurance. Some individuals may choose to purchase supplemental insurance, known as Medigap, to help cover these additional costs.
