Bluestem Health Welcomes New Family Medicine Doctor, Heather Kleeman, DO

Bluestem Health would like to welcome Heather Kleeman, DO, to our team of family medicine doctors. Dr. Kleeman is excited to be part of the Bluestem Health family and seeing patients at Health 360, located at 2301 O Street, in Lincoln, Nebraska. In addition to family medicine care, Dr. Kleeman also performs colposcopies at our Bluestem Health Main Clinic and delivers babies at Bryan Health and CHI St. Elizabeth hospitals in Lincoln.

Originally from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Dr. Kleeman loves the good life here in Lincoln, Nebraska. Her love of this great state and scholarships brought her to the University of Nebraska for her undergraduate studies where she obtained her BA in Biological Sciences in 2009. She attended medical school at A.T. Still University in Kirksville, MO, earning her Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine in 2013. Upon completion of her doctorate, Dr. Kleeman was quite enthused to hear that she would be returning to Lincoln to complete her family medicine residency at Lincoln Family Medicine Residency Program, finishing in 2016 and earning her board certification in Family Medicine.

Following residency, Dr. Kleeman had an offer to work in South Dakota, where she practiced full-spectrum family medicine, including obstetrics. Her love of Lincoln drew her back in 2020, specifically to Bluestem Health and the opportunity to work with fellow physicians Dr. Shahan, Dr. Alvarez, and Dr. Israel, relationships and friendships that she made during residency. She is passionate about the mission of Bluestem Health and the values of the organization, and feels like Bluestem Health puts the health of patients before profit which aligns with her own values.

Dr. Kleeman’s practice in rural South Dakota helped her to gain a wide variety of hands-on experiences necessary to serve the large, diverse Bluestem Health patient population. It allowed her to find her passion for women’s health, offering services such as paps, colposcopies, endometrial biopsies, and implantable birth control and placement of IUDs. Dr. Kleeman also has experience delivering babies, caring for pediatric patients, and is knowledgeable in the benefits of breastfeeding. In addition, she has treated many patients with conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, osteoporosis, and skin issues.

Dr. Kleeman is looking forward to meeting with her patients. She has a compassionate bedside manner – being very informative and calm with her patients, answering any questions or concerns they may have, and developing relationships so they can trust her as they work toward prevention and better health.
