Primary care medicine addresses health issues of all types for all ages, unlike other specialties that focus on specific organs, conditions, or age groups. Because of this, primary care physicians see almost every type of medical concern.
Our goal at Bluestem Health is to offer primary care services to patients who may need additional support that is not offered in other primary care practices. We want to enhance our services so that patients who need that extra attention are given it in a caring and compassionate manner.
To bring these primary care services to more patients and to better serve the Lincoln community, Bluestem Health continues to grow. The most recent addition to the Bluestem Health family is our Piedmont Clinic located at Bryan Health East Medical Plaza, 1500 S. 48th Street, Suite 41.
The Piedmont Clinic providers, Andrew Shahan, MD, and Reba Cooksley, DNP, APRN-NP, offer full-scope, high-quality family medicine services. Let’s learn a little more about them.
Dr. Shahan was Board Certified as a family practice doctor in 2015 after finishing medical school at the University of Kansas and joining Bluestem Health. He credits his extensive military experience for giving him a greater appreciation for various cultures and diverse populations which sets him apart in the medical field. Dr. Shahan describes himself as professional but relaxed with patients. He prides himself on meeting patients where they are and educating them effectively on disease states and treatment options.
Dr. Shahan welcomes patients of all backgrounds, including military and veteran populations. In fact, his medical services may be valuable to military members and their families who are going to be stationed overseas or moving to a new location as they navigate the medical paperwork which can be tricky and needs to be done correctly.
Reba Cooksley is a family nurse practitioner who has worked in nursing since 2014. Her previous hands-on experience working in a hospital setting benefits her current patients at the Bluestem Health Piedmont Clinic as she is adept at explaining the procedures her patients may need.
Reba is passionate about working with diabetic and hypertensive patients and is skilled at glycemic management. She also loves working with children and moms. Patients describe Reba as attentive, friendly, and thorough.
