In family medicine, Tony sees patients from infants to elderly with a broad range of acute and chronic conditions. He loves making a difference in a person’s life. When it comes to his patients that have multiple conditions, Tony understands the role of the primary care provider. “It’s not uncommon for me to be communicating with a cardiologist or pulmonologist about a patient’s condition,” Tony says. “Primary care is the gatekeeper so that patients can get the care they need when they need it. It’s easier to get in to see us than it is to see a specialist. We can do a lot of the necessary workup in advance of that first appointment with the specialist.”
For over 30 years, Charles Kreshel, MD, Family Medicine, has devoted his life to caring for his patients and employees, or as he likes to refer to them as “his family.” Dr. Kreshel especially enjoys the relationships he has developed over the years with his patients and staff. “I just really like taking care of patients,” Dr. Kreshel says. “I’ve been in the same location since 1985, so I’ve treated some of my patients for 20 or more years, and generations of their families. Some of the employees have worked here with me for many years, so it’s fun to come to work every day.”
Medicaid was signed into law in 1965 and was established to provide health insurance to low-income people. This is a federal assistance program, but it is run by the state and looks different across the country, making it a federal and state partnership. In Nebraska, coverage has NOT been expanded to low-income adults. However, Nebraska has enrolled 242,385 individuals in Medicaid and CHIP since January of 2019.

John always knew he wanted to advance his nursing practice by becoming a Nurse Practitioner. He received his Masters in Nursing, with board certification in Family Practice from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. Shortly after graduating, he joined the North Lincoln Family Medical Center, now known as Bluestem Health Kreshel Clinic.
What Arianne enjoys most about Family Medicine and working in a clinic setting are the relationships she is able to have with her patients. The variety of illnesses and conditions that she sees makes every day unique. “I treat a lot of acute illnesses, like sinus and ear infections, colds, and flu, as well as more chronic conditions such as hypertension, thyroid issues, and diabetes,” Arianne says.
Sarah describes her work day as being different and unpredictable. While many routine things are similar, some days are slow while others are crazy. She sees patients of all ages, providing services from annual physicals and preventive health check-ups to acute conditions, such as colds, flu, and well child checks. “I like to see my own patients because I feel it is important to have that continuity of care with them,” Sarah says. “Especially for patients with health challenges, consistently being treated by the same provider develops a level of comfort with them.”
